The Feldenkrais method® is an educational system, which uses movement to bring about positive change & improved function. It does this by first helping the student become aware of his/her existing patterns of action and second, guiding the student in the discovery of additional possibilities for action and improvement.

Learning to move with less effort makes daily life easier. Because the Feldenkrais Method focuses on the relationship between movement and thoughts, increased mental awareness and creativity accompany physical improvements.

The Feldenkrais Method is practiced in two versatile applications.

AWARNESS THROUGH MOVEMENT® ATM

Lessons are usually taught to a group whose attention is directed verbally to a slow and gentle exploration of an action. These unique movement sequences address every joint and muscle group in the body. It is easy–to-do, pleasurable, of benefit to everyone, and the results can be extraordinary.

FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION® FI

Lessons are a hands-on approach using a gentle directed movement. The practitioner guides the student to an awareness of existing and alternative movement patterns. In “FI” the intent of the touch is to communicate, not to correct. It evolves out of the immediate need to convey information to the student. It is designed to enhance personal awareness and produce explicit changes in functioning that will manifest in the student’s actions.

Both applications are organized around a specific human function, (i.e.: reaching, bending, walking) with the intention of increasing awareness of multiple possibilities of action. Taught by a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner®
